Congratulations to our new officers!
President - Chris Copley
VP - Katy Kline
Secretary - Kathleen Dorsey
Treasurer - Aly Watkins

We also summed up our last project, the Circle K rummage sale that is
happening Saturday, May 6th.

On Saturday, April 29th we're participating in Final Blowout and having a
booth where people can play the "how much candy is in the jar" game.

We discussed possibly being a co-sponsor of the mock car crash that is
normally sponsored by Baccus and Gamma during Homecoming week next fall. We
also discussed putting a float in the Homecoming parade so we could have a
little bit of publicity about ourselves.

A few students went on to discuss their internships from over the summer.
They included internships at an advertising agency, a public relations
internship, a special events internship for a TV station, an internship in
D.C. for a anti-violence campaign, and a internship in Kirksville where many
of the writing samples were published... exciting!!

Andrew Kling came to talk to our organization about Rebecca McClanahan's
democratic state representative campaign. She is a Truman professor running
for state representative. They would like our help publicizing her campaign,
and also when voter registration comes around getting students to register
in Kirksville and VOTE! We can delegate a committee at our next meeting for
whoever would like to participate in this.

Rebecca McClanahan / Voter Turnout & Education

-- Rebecca McClanahan, a former professor at Truman, is running for a seat
as a state representative. She's running on the democratic ticket, and
really is focused on the region of Northeast Missouri and policies that will
help higher education, especially Truman. Andrew Kling, a spokesman for her
campaign came and talked to our organization two weeks ago about helping
them educate voters and get students to the polls because only 23% of
registered voters at Truman actually vote.

-- Mo Pip is an consortium run by Dave Lusk, assistant dean of student

supports responsible decision making in regard to alcohol by college
students" in the state of Missouri. They're asking for our help in "creating
a web space or other avenue of getting our message out across campus." They
ask that we attend their meetings bi-weekly so we know what specifically they
need help with and so we can get a feel for their organization. I'll e-mail
separately the people on this committee the times and places of those
meetings.

center at the end of the week to get more information from Dave Kincaid.

Officer Reports:
VP (Katy) -- Katy discussed the classroom visits and how she needed more
volunteers to go to communication classrooms for the first five minutes of
class and help promote our organization.

internship opportunities being offered by the career center. If you have had
an internship, go to the career center on Wednesday 10/4 at 5:45 p.m. or
Thursday 10/5 at 12:00 noon to discuss.
President (Chris) -- Promoted IABC

Ongoing projects:
Comm department: we are working with Lambda Pi Eta (that comm honors
fraternity) to promote some unity within the major and discuss if there are
projects we could collaborate on

MoPip: (Missouri Partners in Prevention): They want to promote a social-norming campaign to change students' ideas and behaviors about drugs and
alcohol, as well as promote a healthy lifestyle. Their meetings are from
3:00 - 4:30 p.m. in the Rec center meeting room.

The State: This band played a concert at the Dukum Up on Thursday night.
Dawn Runge helped promote their concert through Kirksville and campus media.
Thanks Dawn!

We discussed the IABC conference: Katy, Dawn, Chris, Aly, Amanda Holyman and
Erin Musko attended. They agreed that it was a great networking experience ,
they received résumé critiques and time management helpful hints. Diane
stressed that it was a professional conference, not a student conference, so
it gave students a great way to network and really see the field, and if it
was something they would like to do.

New Business:
Our next meeting will be help in the career center in preparation for the
career expo. Our regular business will also be held in the career center.
The next meeting is October 11 at 6 pm. There will be a PRSA (Public
Relations Society of America) conference in Kansas City on Friday, November
5. Chris will get more information about this.

New Projects:
Detours needs a ned Advertising representative. You will be paid, and it
includes the whole northeast Missouri and Iowa areas, not just Kirksville.
You may get an application in the CSI

Tag, the improv group on campus, will be hosting Tag on the Quad on October
4. It will be 25 cents per performance. Contact Elaine Sokolowski for more
information about this project if you would like to help her out! Email:
ems466@truman.edu

Lastly, we received an e-mail from the PR executive committee member of the
Student Public Health Association on campus. His name is Weslee, and would
like to have help promoting their organization. E-mail me and let me know if
you would like to be part of this project and hopefully we can work out a
committee through email before our next meeting. His email is
wc757@truman.edu
